The glorious days of revolutionary syndicalism, of anarcho-syndicalism, may seem distant. All the more so since today, class-struggle syndicalism suffers from the sticky shadow of a reformist not to say collaborationist unionism comfortably nestled within the bosom of the State. It is true that anarchists have not always sung the union tune in unison, even though they have written some of its finest pages. But, faced with the rise of fascism, in all its guises, we know all too well that the response will not come from the ballot box. Might it not come from syndicalism itself? Faced with the vicious blows dealt to us hand in hand by capitalists and politicians, it seems more imperative than ever to reiterate the absolute necessity of economic resistance within free and autonomous class-based organizations. For, however much we may be in retreat, the bosses are conspiring to devour what we have gained!

As for us? We are but small fry, but united and organized, we can unleash the groundswell, provide the necessary push for the tipping point.

To do this, we must fight in our workplaces: in the workshop, in the office, in the corridors, in the locker rooms, at the coffee machine... It sometimes seems utterly insignificant, a damned Sisyphean task, a thankless job that we must repeat twenty times over. Yet, as Pouget told us, "Revolution is a work of daily action!"

As the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Revolution approaches, how should we now think about the slogans of direct action, self-management, or expropriating general strike, so that they are not merely pious ideas, empty injunctions?

Isn't it precisely in the trough of the wave that we must redouble our efforts and row back with all our might? Let's sound the alarm, because there is a union emergency! Let's roll up our sleeves and make the class struggle a daily reality!
