The municipal saga is drawing to a close, the parties are tallying their
points, and the media are commenting. An election marked above all by
the continued rise in abstention. ---- Everywhere, and especially in
rural areas, the population is turning away from the polls. On
television, people are discussing a "rejection of politicians." But what
if, rather than elected officials, the problem lies with bourgeois and
liberal democracy itself? And what if, having experienced it so often,
the masses have finally come to understand that the problem doesn't stem
from the candidates?
In some cities, the call to block the far right through voting was
strong, particularly in Marseille where the National Rally candidate was
widely presented as being on the verge of victory. He will ultimately be
defeated by more than 14 points, and without a massive mobilization: 45%
abstention, only 3 points lower than in the first round. A miraculous
illusion created by media framing.
But make no mistake: this election marks yet another real, slow but
steady rise of the far right, which is increasingly establishing itself
locally.
Everything points to a crisis of liberalism, whose disastrous policies
have become undeniable. But while the alternative offered by the
fascists is clear, the revolutionary camp is struggling to get its
proposals off the ground and find popular support. Yet this is the only
hope of ending this period of uncertainty before the monsters truly emerge.
