In a context of escalating state-sponsored Islamophobia, the Assistance 
Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) is determined to bring healthcare 
workers to heel by repressing a nurse who refused to remove her surgical 
cap. Faced with this racist violence, solidarity and mobilization are 
urgently needed. ---- In November 2025, Majdouline B., a nurse at the 
Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, was dismissed by the AP-HP. The 
courts suspended her dismissal in early January, but the AP-HP 
management is determined and returned to the attack on January 31, 
suspending her for eight months. Majdouline's offense? Refusing to 
remove her surgical cap, the headwear worn by a large portion of the 
healthcare staff.

While the public hospital system is on its last legs and desperately 
short of staff, the AP-HP (Paris Public Hospitals) is indulging its 
Islamophobia by suspending the nurse. This is not an isolated case: 
healthcare workers perceived as Muslim are regularly ordered to remove 
their skullcaps. Since Majdouline refused to remove her head covering, 
the AP-HP management is determined to make an example of her to bring 
all staff into line. Majdouline B.'s initial dismissal was suspended by 
the courts thanks to a massive union mobilization.

The Libertarian Communist Union condemns the Islamophobic policies of 
the AP-HP management and offers its support to Majdouline B., as well as 
to all victims of Islamophobia in the workplace. In hospitals, as in 
sports, education, and many other sectors, the hunt for real or 
perceived Muslims serves as justification for the most blatant employer 
and state arbitrariness. Hierarchies are taking it upon themselves to 
dictate clothing and hunt down the slightest sign of perceived Islam. 
The absurdity of these petty prohibitions should not obscure the 
sinister nature of the political project: to hunt down any visible 
Muslim presence, everywhere and at all times.

Faced with this apartheid logic, let no one be left alone to face the 
racist steamroller. Mass union and political mobilization against 
Islamophobic laws and regulations, from the 2004 law to Islamophobic 
dismissals, is urgently needed. The Libertarian Communist Union supports 
all initiatives that contribute to its development, including the rally 
called by the CGT in front of Tenon Hospital on Friday, February 13th at 
2 pm to denounce the Islamophobic repression that the hospital is 
carrying out under the guise of secularism.
